Our film has won the GRAND PRIX for Best Film at the ECHO Mountain Film Festival in North Macedonia. We are incredibly grateful and thrilled by this honor.
You can read the jury’s statement below.
After 40 years, this film is a direct and merciless review of a Bulgarian expedition to Mount Everest in 1984. Though the film has a clear and simple structure, in a historical context it is a report about nationalistic heroism — it discloses lies, reveals personal conflicts within the members of the expedition team, and dares to present a “new” truth. Though the (hi)storytelling has a clear and simple structure, it keeps the suspense level high throughout the whole film. Its “pillars” are strong protagonists, great authentic historic footage (of the expedition as well as of the political situation in Sofia), and the merciless comments of the persons involved.
